Laura Brisbane, Cape Cod organizer for Voter Choice MA (voterchoicema.org) will be presenting a program about Ranked Choice Voting (RCV).
RCV is a new way of voting which is gaining ground across the country and across Massachusetts that gives voters more choice and more voice.
Right now, we vote for one candidate. With RCV, we rank multiple candidates on the ballot in the order we prefer: first choice, second choice, third choice and so on. This simple change solves systemic problems that chronically divide We the People: vote-splitting, spoiler candidates, and negative campaigning.
RCV is used in cities across the United States, and in countries around the world. This past June, Maine became the first state to use RCV in their primary elections for governor as well as for their state and federal representatives/senators. Massachusetts will be next, and Voter Choice MA is the nonpartisan movement making it happen.
