Lower Cape Indivisible is proud to sponsor a screening of the award-winning documentary, The Brainwashing of My Dad: The Truth Behind The Right Wing Media Machine That Changed a Father…And Divided a Nation, by Jen Seiko. The film chronicles the transformation of the filmmaker’s father, after years of listening to conservative talk radio on his way to and from work, from an open-minded Democrat to a right-wing ideologue.
Shocked by this metamorphosis, Seiko explores the causes behind a phenomenon which has affected so many families. Through interviews with Noam Chomsky, David Brock, Jeff Cohen, Claire Connor, Dr. Kathleen Taylor, Frank Luntz and others, Seiko uncovers startling information about the plan by the late Roger Ailes (under President Nixon) to create a TV network for the GOP; the Lewis Powell Memo, the dismantling of the Fairness Doctrine, (under President Reagan) and the Telecommunications Reform Act (under President Clinton) – all of which helped drive the country to the right, while misinforming millions in a way that has not just changed people on a personal level but helped to fracture our nation.
A discussion about the film and the issues it raises will follow the screening.
A free-will donation to Lower Cape Indivisible to cover the room rental and other costs will gladly be accepted.
The Parish Room is handicapped accessible. There is handicapped parking directly in front of the church and across the street at the Thrift Shop, and ample parking is available across the street (look for the Special Event Parking sign) and behind the church off of Breakwater Road.
We hope people will attend, view this significant film, and learn more about this timely topic.
