The Communications team creates, shapes, articulates and delivers the message of resistance and progressive causes in an effective and compelling manner. The team—which includes writers, editors, designers, public relations, social media, tech and marketing specialists—is tasked with presenting a cogent, consistent and professional face to the public across multiple platforms including online, social media and print. A key point of contact for all major external and internal relationships, the Communications team is involved in apt LCI activities at every stage and in a comprehensive manner, collaborating closely with all teams to identify, target and implement powerful message strategies with the aim of advancing LCI’s goals and expanding the organization’s outreach.
Staff
The Communications team consists of a core group of writers, designers, public relations, social media, and marketing communications specialists who work to advance the objectives of Lower Cape Indivisible. Existing/desired staff includes the following:
Reporters/Writers – experienced writers to develop compelling messaging and content. Duties include covering local LCI events, rallies, lectures; writing/editing brief summaries for distribution; interface with LCI committees to develop event publicity, promotional copy, fliers, collateral.
Copy-Writers/Editors – writing, copy-editing, headlining, journalism skill sets to produce targeted messages, headlines, slogans that optimally communicate services from both organizational and community perspectives. Duties include intense collaboration with LCI committees and individuals to generate, review, and edit content for LCI newsletters, letters to the editor, media, and collateral disseminated to public.
Social Media Manager and Editor: experience in developing content for posting, live-posting on multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram); Manage creation and implementation of online strategy, social media presence and website in collaboration with communications teams. Duties include: community engagement (i.e. responding, commenting, tagging, retweeting, etc.), maintaining online outreach calendar; maintaining, monitoring and growing membership of online platforms; liaising with national Indivisible for pre- and post-event promotions;
Email Marketing Manager: Prepares e-newsletters and e-blasts Reviews analytics and reports on open- and click-through rates with goal of enhancing effectiveness and reach of all email communications. Duties include preparing and editing bi-weekly e-newsletter and periodic e-blasts; reviewing Google analytics; and reporting results to communications and other teams. Facility with MailChimp and Google Analytics is necessary.
PR/Media Relations – collaborate with LCI leadership, committees, and publicist develop to seize publicity opportunities, draft press releases, pitch stories, and connect with print/radio/digital media and allied organizations. Duties include drafting press releases and pitching stories through print, radio, and digital channels; preparing follow-up releases; assisting with preparation of press packages; cultivating media contacts.
Graphic Designers – produce clean, cogent visual layouts for maximum impact to promote LCI actions, events, lectures, and meetings. Duties include image selection; content layout; and design of posters, collateral, and promotional material for distribution in e-mail, social media, web and hard copy channels and outlets.
Web Designers – graphic design and technical expertise in WordPress. Duties include researching best practices for Indivisible websites including content, organization, graphics, etc.; presentation of template options; and implementation of selected web architecture and design. Experience with content design and organization, and facility with WordPress required.
Photographers/Videographers – cover events, town halls, rallies, marches, etc. as part of the editorial team. Duties include capturing clear, eye-catching photos and clips, photo editing, and product distribution to communications team for distribution through social media, email, web and other channels.
Web/IT Specialists – upload content to website, archive outdated content, maintain/update LCI event calendar, help generate traffic. Manage information systems; maintain databases for press contacts, allied organizations, and news coverage. Experience with WordPress necessary; familiarity with Google Suite a plus.
Event Communications Coordinator – to liaison with committee leaders and event coordinators to assist with preparation of promotional material, publicity, and collateral for LCI actions and events. Duties include liaising with committee leaders and event coordinators to identify channels through which events will be promoted and needs for collateral (handouts, sign-in sheets, press packages, etc.)
Marketing/Brand Manager – Ensures consistent look, style, and feel for communications channels (?) and educates organization on brand identity. Duties include reviewing and ensuring consistent brand identity across all platforms, including placement of logo/ taglines placement on letterhead, website, social media, apparel, collateral, etc.
Scribe/Archivists – attend meetings, record proceedings and prepare/disseminate meeting notes; track online media coverage of LCI events, letters, op-eds for distribution on website, newsletters, social media. Work with website specialist to maintain and update website archives.
